Computers engineers in the changing technilogical landscape

I was friends with many, many computers engineers in college. It was the mid-90s after all, and computers were the cutting edge, so the best and brightest were heading into that field to get degrees that would propel them to fortune and adventure.

Or so they thought. Little did they know that, because of the nature of computer technology, rapid changes in both software and hardware could make even the most hard won computer engineers degrees obsolete within a bare few years. It’s a lesson in the modern market: In order to remain a viable commodity in today’s world, you have to constantly update and upgrade your base of knowledge and skills. In that way computers engineers are much like computers themselves: Without constant attention to detail and maintenance, you’ll fall behind the rest of the pack.

Think about it. Just a few years ago I bought a desktop computer with a 250 gig hard-drive that was, at the time, gigantic. Now you can get a cellphone with that much memory. 1 and 2 terrabyte hard drives can be found at places like CostCo for just a few hundred dollars. And that’s before you get into ram upgrades, new video cards, new processors… all of this stuff is borderline obsolete nearly the moment it hits the shelf.

If you want another great example, think about the United States Air Force’s pride and joy, the B-2 Stealth Bomber. It’s still called “state of the art”, but that art would be the art of late-70s computer engineers, nothing modern at all. The stealth fleet actually uses old 486 processers, relics of a pre-Intel technical stone-age that the pilots flying those planes probably don’t even remember. You’ll find more advanced electronics in a children’s toy (seriously, my PSP can out-compute a Stealth fighter’s hardware) than you would in the premiere bomber created in the history of mankind.

So be aware, computer engineers, if you’re thinking about taking that path, that your education will not end once you leave college (with or without diploma). There is a world of continuing education that beckons, and you’ll have to heed its call if you wish to remain in demand as a viable employee for modern businesses.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that a degree in computers engineering isn’t worth pursuing. On the contrary, because of the flexible nature of the field there’s always going to be demand for people with expertise in that area. As long as you keep up with new technology to a reasonable degree, you’ll always be somewhat in demand. It’s the closest thing to a “sure bet” going right now.

Article Submission

?Content is king?, so goes a common saying among web developers and search engine optimization experts. In the present world, the information age, we have more information available than at any other time in history. What is more, most of this information can be found on web pages scattered all over the world. How then can this information be gathered in a systematic way for easy retrieval and use? Article directories are the answer. Article directories have simplified how information is collected and disseminated. An online directory can contain thousands of articles in virtually any topic imaginable. To accomplish this massive task, many directories offer article submission proposals to writers to develop content for them.

An article submission assignment involves gathering information on a wide variety of topics, compiling that information and submitting it to these online libraries. In order to be accepted as authentic information, such information should not be copied from another source word for word. Article submission directories usually check for foul play by use of what are called article checkers. These are software applications that scan the internet for the exact copies of the similar articles. If an exact copy or copies are found, the submitted article is said to be plagiarized. Since plagiarized content is illegal, it is not accepted. If plagiarized content is to be submitted, then credit is given to the original article.

Article submission services abound on the internet. With thousands of websites being created everyday, the need for original content does not seem to slow down. Many businesses in an effort to advertise their services have come up with ingenious ways to promote their websites. Usually, an article submission will accept content from websites. In return, they allow the authors to include a link their website. In this way, readers can be redirected to the original source of the information.

Since many people rely on article submission services for information, writing content for these directories is a good way to get people to visit your site and in the process get a client or two. An article submitted to these archives is also a good way to enlighten people on their area of interest, even if it may not result to monetary gain. Article submission directories have contributed immensely to providing unbiased content on the web. In addition, they have also become avenues for many websites to lead people back to their websites. They thus a two-fold purpose, both for businesses as well as the consumers.

Digital cameras on sale

Digital cameras on sale

The world of photography has changed greatly with the internet revolution of the last twenty years. Gone are the days of Polaroid and polaroids, gone – or nearly so – are the disposable cameras that were a staple of impromptu get-togethers, backwoods camping trips and wedding tables, and gone are the photography development counters at most pharmacies and big box stores.

What’s changed is that everything is available digitally now, and with the amount of digital cameras on sale, the change is understandable. Digital cameras are faster, more reliable, and cheaper in the long run than almost any regular film cameras. You also got the benefit of being able to instantly see the image you just captured and decide whether to save it, or re-take the photograph. It’s a benefit that’s made digital cameras a necessity for anyone who’s taking pictures for just about any reason.

That’s not to say that film has lost its place entirely. The amount of digital cameras on sale have certainly changed amateur photography as well as the way most newspapers and, of course, internet websites do business, but it’s not changed the way professional photographers photograph everything from weddings to birthdays and beyond. As convenient and high quality as digital cameras are, there’s still no substitute for film when looking for the best image quality from a professional standpoint.

A friend of mine is a professional wedding photographer, quite a good one at that (she won a Time Out New York Best of NYC award in 2008) and she attests to film’s superior quality when it comes to documenting the most important days of your life. Of course, with that documentation comes a higher cost – which is part and parcel of the whole deal when it comes to high-profile events like a wedding. Digital cameras’ cheaper price will, for most folks, more than make up for the difference in image quality when it comes to every day life.

The best place, then, to start looking for digital cameras on sale is the internet. Whether you’re searching the likes of ebay, Amazon.com, or specialty camera stores that have dedicated websites, your best bet is to do some price comparisons online before jumping into a purchase headfirst. Once you have an idea of how much you should expect to spend, then you should do some out-and-about work checking out prices in nearby stores that specialize in cameras and other video equipment.

Fascinated by a topic, but clueless? Begin your education with a free pdf ebook!

In a recent conversation with a friend, I learned that she had held a long-standing desire to work with animals in a healing occupation. I’d known that all her life, she’d been the one neighbors and virtual strangers would come to with pets who were ill, or simply in need of a home. They could always count on her to help. She said that, at one point in her life, her reputation had spread to the point where she was caring for six dogs, eighteen kitties, a spider monkey and three birds! While she eventually nursed them back to health, found them good homes or whatever was required, the venture became overwhelming and she was forced to put on the brakes.

She also said that she’d once had an opportunity to join the Peace Corps, travel to Australia and receive training as a veterinarian over a 6-year educational program ? all on government funding. She was then eighteen. ?I ended up getting married instead and having kids!? She never did realize her lifelong dream. Now in her mid-fifties, she had given up hope.

The point of this story is that there are so many people in this same spot today. The difference is that today, the Internet provides a wealth of free information and instruction that wasn’t available back in the day. Newsletters, tutorials, free pdf e-books and distance learning courses can jump start a new career. If you have a passion for any subject under the sun, you can pursue your dreams, in many cases, right from home.

Why should you look for e books in the pdf format? For one thing, the pdf format is a safe download, with all the search features available in the Adobe Acrobat arsenal of features. So, here’s a plan to get you started.

It costs you nothing but a little time to download the free e-books and read them. You’ll become conversant in marketing jargon and have a good idea of what aspect particularly appeals to you. Now you’ve got direction! Onward and upward!

2.If writing is your love, you can find an array of information in e-books, including how to write business plans, format resumes, grammar, and links to valuable writing resources. You’ll also run across some terrific out of print classics, such as one I recently found, a treasure written by Mark Twain, ‘The Art of Writing’, devoted to the specialized topic of writing for kids.

3.Maybe you’d like to pursue a career in horticulture. You’ve got that green thumb, but haven’t a notion as to what area of the field to pursue, or where to start.
