Are your finances out of control? Credit counseling may be the answer

In the ‘good old days’ ? not too many years in the past ? credit card companies handed out credit cards like candy. Most of us gladly filled up our wallets with at least several of these handy ways to pay for goods we wanted. Those balances have a way of creeping up and up, don’t they? In today’s economy, if you find yourself in a financial mess, you ought to consider credit counseling as a viable solution to getting your finances back on track.

There’s something about those little plastic wallet sized cards, being so easy to use. You see a CD, a dress, a book that grabs your fancy and buy it. However, when the credit card statements come in, there’s that OMG moment. Did I really spend that much? Yep. It’s quite easy to find yourself in the position of only managing to make the minimum payment, which of course means accumulating interest charges. Credit card debt is really a snowballing financial phenomena. There’s the added problem of late fees and the subsequent increased interest rates.

Just as there are counseling services for educational objectives, marriage problems and psychological issues, credit counseling services offer solutions for those of us who need to get a better handle on our finances. In addition to negotiating lower interest rates and putting together a sound repayment plan, some credit services offer debt management and financial education programs.

However, you want to choose a credit counseling service carefully before signing up. With so many people in financial crisis, there are an abundance of less-than-ethical credit services, eager to fleece you! Here are some points you want to clarify before engaging any consumer credit service.

1.Verify that the service is accredited, either with the Association of Independent Credit Counseling Agencies, or the National Foundation for Credit Counseling. Non-profit services are usually your best bet.

2.All credit counseling services will charge a setup fee. Legitimate services charge a nominal fee, in the neighborhood of $10-20. If the service you’re considering charges substantially more, this is a suspicious indicator. At the same time, if the service offers one-on-one personalized financial education or debt management coaching, a larger fee may be worth your money.

3.Beware if the service promises ‘too good to be true’ scenarios, such as settling for pennies on the dollar. The fact is that you will need to pay everything you owe, although renegotiated, lower interest rates can reduce the overall debt. Keep in mind that a consolidated debt program might affect your credit rating. Ask the service for specifics in your situation. Lenders differ as to how they perceive and report your participation in a consolidated credit program. While some creditors view this situation positively, others see it negatively and may not be willing to do business with you in the future.

4.Find out where your first month’s payment goes! Unethical services may take that payment as an additional ‘fee’ for their own profit, which means your credit rating worsens, rather than improves!

Once you’ve found a credit counseling service that satisfies your objectives with legitimate practices, you can be on the road to a debt free standing and a better credit rating. Expect completing the debt repayment to take anywhere from 18 months to 4 years, depending on the amount of debt and the amount you can manage to repay each month. Good luck!

Home Study Courses

You have, by now, heard a lot about home university study and going to college online. These programs are getting bigger and bigger, and are becoming more accepted as mainstream education. Most of these programs are for large degrees, meaning you study for a bachelors or masters as a form of continuing education or for an associates degree for a new course of study. However, there are more and more home study courses that you can find ? both online and off ? that do not offer such a degree, but can be great stepping stones to new and more lucrative careers.

You may find home study courses today that cover just about anything that you may want to do. If you have ambitions to work in home construction, there are many courses that you can take for a variety of jobs. You can find help with electrical, plumbing, and even drywall hanging through home study courses. You may also find courses that cover landscaping, tree maintenance, or roofing and windows. Most homes need interior designers too. All aspects are important to home construction and you will always find work with any of these courses.

You can find home study courses for other things as well. You may want to open up your own business with a new trade. There are courses of study out there that cover electrical appliance repair, or perhaps you want to go into a plumbing and heating business. You may also want to find home study courses that cover all aspects of owning and running your own business so that you do not have any trouble with that aspect of your new venture. You can always hire someone to help you with this, but it is much better if you know this stuff on your own so you can keep your eyes on things.

When you take on home study courses, you are going to find that you have time to work through them at your own pace. You can work when you have the time and then not worry too much if you get busy. You do want to do things in a timely manner, but much of your studying can be done when you find the time and when things work out the best for you. You will probably have an advisor or someone to which you send your work, and then you will be tested before you can receive your degree or certificate.

When signing up, take money, time, and your potential into consideration when you decide if the time is right. For most people, they do not do this on a whim, but rather, when they need a change in life and/or when they need to make more money. Taking home study courses is a great way to create a new area in your life without messing up the rest of it. Sometimes, when life seems stale, it means something new, but does not mean everything is wrong. At times, having a new career direction is all it takes to make everything in your life new again.

Top Quality Night Vision Goggles

Top Quality Night Vision Goggles

Most people have probably never seen night vision goggles up close. In fact, I’d be willing to bet that if it weren’t for movies and television shows, they wouldn’t even know what this type of device looks like. But law enforcement and military personnel are well aware of how important night vision goggles can be for operations that take place after dark, and now the technology is increasingly being used by private citizens as well.

What could a person possibly need night vision goggles for? Well, there are actually a number of legitimate uses. For instance, I know several wildlife lovers who enjoy observing nocturnal creatures such as bats, foxes, owls, raccoons, and possums do their thing. From what I hear, it’s quite a different experience watching these animals out in nature versus seeing them in confined zoo habitats, so my friends have assured me that purchasing these sight aids were well worth the money.

Hunting is another activity in which top quality night vision goggles are essential. Being able to see your quarry in the dark obviously gives you a huge advantage, and can dramatically increase the number of successful outings you have. Some people might think that using this type of equipment is not very sportsmanlike, but I know that a number of guys go ahead with it anyway. Just make sure that it’s not against local laws or regulations before you plunk down money for your own set.

A third way that non-military personnel use night vision goggles is for security purposes. A lot of small business owners are providing this type of equipment to their nighttime security guards to help them patrol the premises even better. This gives the guard a significant edge over would-be burglars, thereby improving safety and security around the office. Moreover, if people know that security guards are equipped in this fashion, they’ll be less likely to attempt theft in the first place.

The biggest drawback to night vision goggles is the price. These things are expensive, with even low-end models costing upwards of $750. But there are a few ways for smart shoppers to save on their purchase. For example, if you don’t mind buying used equipment, you can get tremendous discounts of up to 70 percent off the original retail price. In addition, you can order night vision goggles online from wholesalers that run a tight ship so they can pass the savings on to customers. If you find the right store, you can get a pair for a very reasonable cost.

If you’re a wildlife enthusiast, outdoorsman, security guard, or anyone else who can benefit from seeing in the dark, then you might want to check into buying a set of night vision goggles. This would be a big investment for sure, but it could pay off in a lot of ways.

What Are Affiliate Networks?

What Are Affiliate Networks?

Affiliate networks are basically intermediary companies that for a fee perform the task of recruiting into the program or ?network?, others that will assume the role of sales of the specific program. Nice handy definition, but what exactly does it mean to you, what an affiliate network is?

A group of like-minded individuals looking to sell or promote the same product, that get together either online or in person, to share and promote together ? that?s a simple affiliate network for you. Sure, there?s lots of bells and whistles that can be added to this, like ?we provide all your leads? and ?we advertise for you? and others like it, but with those kinds add-on?s you have to ask yourself, if they do all that and have all that, why do they need me at all? Simply put, these networks have to continually grow, or they die. They?re all growth driven, and nothing can change that.

The networks themselves, especially on line, do have some great things going for them. The ability to share information, both good and bad, can be a great way to avoid the bad things to do, and to learn new ways that are good to promote the product. The fact that these affiliate networks are usually single product based is also a plus, but there are some that will promote multiple products, so look for those that complement what you?re looking to do with the product you?ve chosen.

For the owners of these programs, or ?publishers? as most people call them now, the advantages are simply huge. To be able to set a ?fire and forget? sales program at little or no cost to your company or to yourself, is simply awesome, as it can create a tide of sales without a huge outlay on behalf of the publisher. Then being able to tap into that ready-made market that your affiliates have made for you when your next product or improvement to your existing product comes out just add?s even more benefit?s to the cost effectiveness of that program, and allows exponential growth for pennies on the dollar, with having the whole campaign run, effectively for free if your numbers are done properly, by others is just such an enormous leap over the hire a sales force and make them sell attitude, it?s a wonder that more companies aren?t in the affiliate marketing and affiliate networks business for themselves.

The Bank of Internet

The Bank of Internet

The first time I saw the phrase “Bank of Internet,” I thought it was a typo. How could there be a bank “of” someplace that isn’t, technically, even a place? How could there be a bank of something that is everywhere and nowhere? How could there be a bank of internet?

Then I looked it up and, lo-and-behold, it wasn’t a typo. Bank of Internet is a legitimate, FDIC-insured consumer bank. They have high ratings, they do savings and checking accounts, high yield savings, high-interest checking, money market accounts and apartment and home loans.

So they’re a real bank that provides real services. The difference is, they’re thinking 21st century while their competitors are thinking, well, 20th century at best. See, with the age of internet upon us, all money can be tracked electronically. Savings accounts, checking accounts, everything down to the last dollar and cent, can be done online. Gone are the drive-through tellers, the snail-mail statements, and all the other accoutrements of generations past.

I admit, it’s a bit unnerving. There’s something comforting about holding a slip of paper that tells you how much you have, how much you’re going to have, and how much you owe. Seeing it online… I guess you have to have been raised with it in order to be fully secure with only seeing it on a computer screen.

That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try to become comfortable with doing your finances online. As long as you secure your computer and your network, there’s nothing to be fearful of. And if you want to take that extra step, Bank of Internet offers you the option to always print out statements at your leisure. The security of a paper statement is, then, left totally up to you.

Of course Bank of Internet isn’t the only bank to offer online banking. In fact almost every bank does, now. The difference is taht, thanks to eliminating the cost of the actual physical infrastructure, Bank of Internet has less overhead and therefore can offer better rates on your deposits. Going purely electronic obviously has its benefits.

Does this mean you should dump your current bank? No, of course not. But if you’re looking to find ways to save a few extra bucks here or there, you should do some research and see if Bank of Internet is for you. This isn’t to say that it’s inherently better to do business there, or that you’re guaranteed to save more money if that’s where you keep your deposits. But it is worth looking into, especially since it doesn’t cost you a dime.
